A road run by the people who trade on it
Unley Road is a strip of around four hundred family-run shops, cafés, restaurants and services, five minutes south of the Adelaide CBD, with two free hours of parking and bus routes the length of it.
Who we are
We’re the traders of Unley Road, working together to keep the precinct independent, welcoming and easy to visit. Every business here is locally owned: no chains, no mall, just a real road with a character all its own.
The Association looks after the things that make the road work: events and seasonal campaigns, the business directory, and a steady voice for traders with the City of Unley.
What we do
- Promote the precinct and its independent businesses
- Run events, markets and seasonal campaigns along the road
- Maintain the directory so locals can find what’s open
- Represent traders on parking, access and streetscape

By bus
Adelaide Metro routes 190 and 190B run the full length of Unley Road between the city and Mitcham, stopping every couple of hundred metres, so wherever you’re headed on the strip, there’s a stop close by.
From the CBD it’s a 15–20 minute ride. Stop 3, near the heart of the precinct, is the handiest for most shops and cafes.
By tram
The Glenelg tram runs between the bay, the city and the Botanic Garden. Its City South stop sits a two-minute walk from the northern end of Unley Road.
Travel within the city is free, so the tram is an easy, no-cost hop if you’re already in the CBD.
By train
There’s no station on Unley Road itself, but the Belair, Seaford and Flinders lines all run nearby. Millswood is the closest station, about a 25-minute walk away.
Easiest option: ride the train into the city or to a nearby line, then connect to a 190/190B bus or the tram for the last leg.
By car
Unley Road is just 4 km, around five minutes, south of the CBD, straight down from the city centre.
Parking is genuinely easy: over 550 free spaces across the Unley Shopping Centre car parks, plus free time-limited parking on the side streets. It’s all free; you’re only watching the clock, not a meter.
Always check the signs: time limits are enforced and vary by bay.
On foot or bike
The terrain is flat and the city is close, so walking or riding is genuinely easy: roughly a 25-minute walk or a 10-minute ride from the centre of town.
Unley Road connects to the Frome Bikeway network, and there are bike racks dotted along the strip.
